Mercedes Benz M-Class Enthusiasts Mailing List Guidelines:
* Purpose of the list
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class Mailing List is for serious M-B M-Class
owners or prospective owners to discuss M-Class related topics,
including general information, technical information, do-it-yourself
reports, news, and other topics related to the M-Class vehicles.
* List formats
There are two types of mailing services, a regular one and a digest
format. The former will relay every message posted, whereas the later
will only send out one message per day in a digest format. You will
need to indicate which format you prefer. To change from one format
to another, you will need to unsubscribe the current list and
subscribe to the new list.
* To Subscribe or Unsubscribe
To subscribe to the list, visit http://lists.off-road.com/mailman/listinfo/m-class/
You will be notified when your subscription is approved because the
list is a closed list. This usually takes a few days.
We also provide an additional list that is for posting only. This allows
subscribers who may have multiple email accounts and prefer to read email
with one account and to post with another one. If you have such need,
subscribe to one of the two lists first with the email account you will
receive email, then contact the list administrator with information on your alternate addrss.
* To Post
To post a message to the list, send email to
m-class@lists.off-road.com
* Subject line
Please use the subject line properly when posting with precise and
relevant title. When you replying a message with different subject,
change the subject line to reflect the new subject in order to avoid
confusion. Digest subscribers need to pay special attention to the
subject line when replying as the original subject line is usually
"M-B M-Class Digest: Vol 01/Issue 23".
* Quoting
When replying a message, many email programs automatically include a
copy of the original message. Please edit the included message to
include only the related section, especially when replying to a
digest. It's really a waste when someone replies with a line like "I
agree!" while including the whole digest that could be several pages
long.
* Replying to individual poster
In some cases a reply to an individual is preferred instead of to the
whole list. For example, when someone posts a message regarding a
for-sale item, a reply to the for-sale owner is preferred instead of
telling everyone on the list you're interested in the item.
* Attachment
Email attachments such as graphic files, sound files, or other
multimedia information are generally discouraged due to bandwidth
resource concern. World Wide Web is better suited for sharing such
information. You are welcome to publish an URL such as
http://myweb.com/mclass/myfavorpic.jpg in posting. There is also a
Member's Showcase for hosting list members' favor pictures.
If your email program is configured to send out rich text such as HTML
or attach file such as WINMAIL.DAT automatically, your posting will be
rejected by the list server. To find out how to configure your email
properly, please see http://www.off-road.com/mbenz/rich-text.html for
details.
* Use of HTML
While more and more email programs interpret some HTML commands,
posting a complete HTML document to the list is not encouraged. Some
limited use of HTML commands such as font related is allowed.
* FAQ
If you're a new member and have a question, please read the Frequent
Asked Question file. Your questions could very well be already
answered in the FAQ. The FAQ is available in the M-Class Mailing List
web site as http://www.off-road.com/mbenz/faq.html.
* Archive
Past email messages will be archived, see the archive section at
http://moab.off-road.com/pipermail/m-class/.
* Unrelated topics (jokes, politics, etc )
In order to keep the list interesting, you are asked to post only
M-Class related topics. While there are topics that you and some of
your fellow list members may want to share, such as jokes, political
comments, or even discussion of a specific M-B vehicle alone such as
an E300D, they are not related to the list and thus discouraged. There
are many lists for such topics. For other Mercedes-Benz related lists,
see the M-B Related Links at http://www.off-road.com/mbenz/links.html
for information.
* For Sales Message
Posting message with for sales item related to M-Class is allowed.
Please provide sufficient information so others can reply directly.
Inquiry to the for sale item should be posted directly to the owner
instead of the list.
* Flames, chain letter, personal attack
Be polite to your fellow list members. Flames, rants, and obscenities
are strictly forbidden. We have one-strike-you're-out policy. Chain
letter such as the one asking you to resend to many others who you may
or may not know for whatever purpose (getting rich, dying kid, etc),
is also not allowed. Personal attack such as name calling is strictly
prohibited and the list administrators reserve the right of removing
violators.
* Spam
Email spam is the evil of private mailing list. While we stride very
hard to protect the list and the privacy of the list members, spam
could happen from time to time. Please refrain from commenting or
denouncing the spam in the list that will create further frustration.
Report the problem to the list administrators directly via sending
email to mclass@off-road.com if the problem persists more than two
days. It is highly recommended you do not response to the offender
yourself by replying since this will expose your email address to the
spammer and may result with more spam message going to your email
address.
With the proliferation of free email accounts available in the
Internet, many of them are lack of anti-spam policy and anyone can
sign up without verifiable credential. We reserve the right of
blocking and not accepting subscribers from certain email accounts.
